The injections are virtually painless, though you may opt for a topical analgesic or numbing of the area to ensure that you don’t feel significant discomfort.
Once the treatment is completed, you can immediately go about your day, though you should plan on avoiding vigorous or strenuous activity. Any minor pain, bruising or swelling can be treated with an over-the-counter pain medication, or by icing the area. Side effects are usually minimal, and may include redness or temporary harder areas at the injection sites, but these are natural and will resolve on their own.
Depending on the degree of your submental fullness, multiple treatments may be necessary. These are usually performed about a month apart to allow for your body to do its job and absorb the treated fat cells. Results from Kybella are considered permanent, because once they are destroyed, the fat cells are no longer able to accumulate or store fat. However, if you gain weight, new fat cells can be generated and collect under your chin once again, so maintaining a healthy weight will ensure that your results are long-lasting.
