Mommy Makeover
Most everyone knows a mom who puts the needs of her family before her own in nearly every situation, though what we tend to forget is that not only is she an amazing mother, she is an amazing woman – beautiful, feminine, and strong. At Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery, we believe that all women should have the opportunity to look and feel their best, which is why we are proud to provide a selection of procedures to help do just that.
Is a Mommy Makeover for Me?
“Mommy Makeover” is a term used to characterize the possible combinations of popular procedures that women typically consider after having children. At your initial consultation with Dr. Terrasse, he will listen to your concerns and goals for your post-pregnancy body and examine you. With your help, he will create a customized plan for restoring a youthful contour to your body, giving you back the confidence and sense of self that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle of everyday life. The optimal candidates for a mommy makeover are women who:
- Have completed their family and do not plan on becoming pregnant again
- Have recovered completely from their last childbirth experience
- Are no longer breastfeeding
- Are within 10-15 pounds of a healthy weight
The mommy makeover combination we perform most often consists of an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and a breast lift with or without augmentation.

Option One: Abdominoplasty
An abdominoplasty is a procedure that is in high demand; in 2016, nearly 200,000 tummy tucks were performed in the U.S. It is designed to give you what diet and exercise can’t – a tighter, more toned stomach. This is not to say that a tummy tuck is the answer to losing that last bit of baby weight, but it can help complete the process, especially considering the physical changes you experienced during pregnancy. Instead, it removes the excess skin and fat left behind after weight loss, leaving behind a smoother, flatter abdomen.
Another bonus to undergoing an abdominoplasty is that Dr. Terrasse can repair abdominal muscles that were damaged during pregnancy. Diastasis recti (or abdominal separation) occurs when too much pressure is put on the abdominal muscles from the inside, causing them to separate down the middle. The result is abdominal weakness and lower back pain, as well as a noticeable “pooch” that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. It’s a fairly common occurrence among pregnant women – in fact, nearly one-third of women experience diastasis recti during pregnancy. Luckily, it is something that is able to be addressed during a tummy tuck.

As women well know, there are many reasons why breasts begin to sag. Weight gain and loss, pregnancy, and breastfeeding can adversely affect the shape and size of your breasts, leaving them drooping and looking deflated. However, these are not conditions that you need to accept if you do not want to – Dr. Terrasse can safely restore the youthful contour of your chest as a part of your mommy makeover.
A breast lift (or mastopexy) is designed to lift your breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the remaining tissue to restore the youthful perkiness you enjoyed pre-pregnancy. In addition, if your areolae have become excessively enlarged over time, a breast lift can address this as well.
Mommy Makeover Results & Recovery
One of the great advantages of undergoing a mommy makeover is that by combining procedures, you are reducing your total recovery time. Mommy makeovers are typically performed using general anesthesia, and once complete, you will spend some time in a recovery room while the anesthesia wears off. Depending on the extent of your surgery, an overnight stay in the hospital is sometimes recommended. Once you return home, you will need to rest and limit your activity during the first two to three weeks. You can usually begin to resume normal activities (though nothing strenuous) soon after, and more intense exercise after about six weeks. However, everyone is different, so Dr. Terrasse will provide you with a post-surgical plan that will outline your recovery needs, and schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress.
You will wear fitted compression garments during recovery to support your abdomen and breasts as they heal, but once the swelling subsides, you will begin to see the results of your mommy makeover. Your stomach will be smoother and flatter, and your breasts will settle into their uplifted and enhanced position. Both abdominoplasty and breast lift results are permanent as long as you maintain a healthy weight, though over time both areas will change a bit due to age, gravity and life events.
Your body is extraordinary, and has gone through so much. Let Dr. Terrasse enhance your life and help you feel as good on the outside as you do on the inside. Call Terrasse Aesthetic Surgery today at 800-555-1212 and schedule your consultation to find out if a mommy makeover is right for you.
